Psychotherapy

About me

I’m a psychodynamic psychotherapist offering individual therapy in Cambridge and London. I work with people once or more frequently each week, in open-ended therapy. My approach is warm, calm and reflective. I provide a supportive, non-judgemental space in which to explore, make links, and gain deeper understanding of difficult issues and feelings.

People often seek therapy after an emotional crisis or to help them deal with trauma or loss. Others might be looking to gain self-knowledge or change repetitive ways of behaving. I work with a wide range of emotional difficulties including anxiety, trauma, feelings of isolation and unease, issues around making or sustaining relationships, shame, and a sense of unrealised potential, perhaps at work or in life more generally. I am also interested in early relational difficulties – how they shape our ways of being and affect our intimate and wider relationships.

My training was at the Society of Analytical Psychology (SAP), the leading UK professional body for Jungian psychotherapists. I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and follow its rigorous codes of ethics and practice. I am also a member of the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP). Aside from private practice, I have worked in a variety of therapeutic settings in London, Leicester and Cambridge.

About therapy

Therapy can be dynamic, explorative, creative, meaningful and profound. It is a unique relationship that often leads to greater self-acceptance and more fulfilling ways of being.

I use a psychodynamic approach – put simply, this means looking at ‘the now’ while also paying attention to what is just below the surface, outside everyday considerations. Each session will be led by you and what’s on your mind. I’ll listen closely and respond thoughtfully and reflectively. I’m curious to hear your ideas, feelings, memories, motivations and dreams, including emotions experienced in your body, and things that seem irrational and incomprehensible. We’ll think together about problems and explore ways forward. Gradually, within the peace and sanctuary of the therapeutic relationship, we’ll build a better understanding of your emotional life and the complexity of your experiences.

Effective therapy also tends to interweave past and present. People come feeling stuck, stressed, confused, adrift or angry, often without knowing why. This may be because early experiences, beliefs and assumptions are continuing to play out, shaping current ways of being. We’ll explore where these feelings come from and assess how useful they are for you today. As part of this process, it is normal for difficult emotions or painful memories to come to the surface. Getting in touch with the deeper, unrecognised beliefs underlying emotions can help us make better sense of our lives and become more connected to our feelings.

By paying attention to how things feel in the room, we can explore long-established ways of relating and see how these might shift and develop over time. Where appropriate, we’ll also think about whether race, gender, class or neurodivergence, among other issues, may be impacting both your inner and outer worlds.

As self-awareness and understanding gradually evolve in the therapeutic setting, emotional growth becomes more possible, and a richer and fuller sense of self evolves. You can start to move forward more freely and develop in your own way.

First meeting

I offer open-ended therapy with weekly or more frequent sessions, depending on what might be most helpful for you. I work in person and online.

The first step is to set up an initial meeting. During this 50-minute session, we’ll explore what brings you to therapy right now, and think about the best way forward. I’ll ask some questions about your family, current relationships and support networks. This initial meeting will give a sense of what it’s like to be in the room together. Then, if you feel you’d like to start therapy, we can arrange a regular time slot.

Fees

The initial meeting costs £75. Subsequently, the fee per session ranges from £75 to £95, depending on location and ability to pay. I also offer a number of reduced-fee places for those with limited means.

Location

I work in-person in central Cambridge; in Victoria, London SW1 (LAPC); and online as required.
